...would upload the public domain content they hold directly to the internet archive. That way we would have much better uploads of the stuff I and many others have uploaded in dodgy MPEG2 files (or worse, MPEG4), as well as stuff that isn't on here, like the totally obscure sitcom "Marge and Jeff". Each episode of that show was 15-minutes long, it had no sponsor so it had PSAs instead of ads, it aired on the DuMont network, and it aired 5 new episodes a week (following the inept yet charming yet questionable yet innovative thing known as "Captain Video")

Me too. The library in NYC is also a hoarder of old TV media (Library of Broadcasting)
